Municipio colombiano con 19 mil habitantes aproximadamente, limita con los municipios de Baranoa, Palmar de Varela, Santo Tomás, Polonuevo, Salamina, Sabanalarga, Candelaria, Campo de la Cruz y con el Río Magdalena y está a 40 km de Barranquilla. Entre sus atractivos turísticos se pueden encontrar: el muelle, la Isla del Socorro y el Estadio de fútbol San Francisco.
